Ammoye

Ammoye is a unique multidimensional vocalist raised in the tradition of Reggae music. Hailing from Clarendon, Jamaica and now residing in Toronto, Canada, this 6 X JUNO Award nominee is at the forefront of the genre domestically and making waves internationally. Ammoye is easily cast as one of Canada’s best Reggae and fusion vocalists, and considered by many music tastemakers as Canadian Reggae’s “Next Big Thing”.

With her star-powered stage presence, Ammoye radiates uplifting messages of love, unity, and social justice. Ammoye's songs speak to themes of compassion, forgiveness, empowerment, and the importance of standing up for what is right.

Ammoye’s sophomore album, “Water” (2021), earned her a 2023 JUNO Award nomination for “Reggae Recording Of The Year’ as well as Grammy Award consideration. A blend of old-school rocksteady, dancehall and dubstep sprinkled with gospel, soul and R&B, the 13 track LP featured a cast of producers from Canada, Jamaica, the U.S. and Germany. With its release and acclaim began a new era of international appeal and opportunities.

In 2024 Ammoye plans to release her third album The Shift. A natural follow-up and continuation of the sound she established on Water, The Shift will focus on themes of realignment and harmony during the transformational phases of our lives. It is about finding the light and celebrating the highest truth, harnessing the power both collectively and within. Ammoye has found the new version of herself, and through telling her story, wants her audience to find theirs too

Following the success of Water, Ammoye partnered with two booking agencies- You Will Love It Live! (Canada) and Pasa Musik (Quebec only). Ammoye also partnered with award winning management company, Unique Applause. This led to her busiest touring year yet, with notable performances at COMA Fest Brazil, Mundial Montreal, Rideau Festival Quebec, Mariposa Folk Festival, Northern Lights Festival Boréal, and Bout de Monde Festival. Ammoye recently accepted an invitation to perform at AFROFEST Africa in Cape Town, South Africa in December 2023. These bookings, along with showcases in North America and beyond, hint towards the next phase in Ammoye’s career evolution.

One of Mexico’s greatest reggae bands, ANTIDOPING, finally makes it to Victoria to headline this opening free show. A linchpin of the Razteca Movement – a fusion of Mexican culture and Rastafarian philosophy, that includes our old friends LosRastillos – Antidoping has been one of Mexico’s most vital, exciting reggaebands for over 30 decades. With a full horn section, thumping rhythm section and an absolutely captivating frontman, Antidoping bring an unforgettable show and vibe with them wherever they go. We are honoured to welcome them to Victoria for the first time.

At its heart, Victoria Ska & Reggae Fest is about community. In 25 years we’ve made a barrel of lifetime friends in music and there aren’t many bands that represent the community spirit of our festival more than THE CAPITAL COLLECTIVE. Featuring members of our local music scene from beloved acts like Lovecoast and Dope Soda to name but a couple, The Capital Collective came together 5 years ago to help us celebrate our 20th and they’re back to help us bring in the 25th like only they can. A powerful ska orchestra, The Capital Collective brings BIG SOUND to the stage every time theyunite. Opening up the main stage for year 25 is reggae jam-band GISTO & THE GRATEFUL LIVING. Their unique blend of reggae and dancehall with elements of Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers has won them fans all over. With a diverse lineup of musicians from different walks of life, Gisto & The Grateful Living represent the unifying power of reggae music. Rounding things off, warming up the stage and keeping it bouncing between bands is our dear friend,DJ and community builder JUDAH ROOTS, who will be playing the finest reggae, dancehall and other Caribbean flavours.
